Fortsatt nordiskt nej till Ryssland

I förra veckan träffades de nationella, nordiska idrottsorganisationerna för sitt årliga möte, denna gång på Grönland. I samband med mötet konstaterades att de nordiska olympiska kommittéerna, paralympiska kommittéerna och nationella riksidrottsförbunden står fortsatt enade i frågan om ryskt och belarusiskt deltagande i internationell idrott.

Uttalandet från det nordiska mötet 1 september 2023:

The Nordic Olympic Committees, Paralympic Committees and Confederations of sports discussed the question on Russian and Belarusian participation in international sports at its meeting in Greenland.

At the meeting, we the Nordic sports umbrella organizations, reiterated and underlined our positions and statement from the 7th of February 2023 on this issue.

• The situation with the war in Ukraine has not changed.
• Therefore, we stand firm in our position, not to open for Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials in the international sports participation.
• Now is not the right time to consider their return; that is our position.
• We, the Nordic Olympic and Paralympic Committees and Confederations of sports, take this opportunity to reaffirm our steadfast support once again with the Ukrainian people and the demand for peace.
• The Nordic Olympic and Paralympic Committees and Confederations of sports will work together and in close dialogue with relevant stakeholders to evaluate and monitor the situation closely.

Ryssland och Belarus är avstängda från att som länder delta vid OS och Paralympics i Paris nästa år. Internationella Olympiska Kommittén och Internationella Paralympiska Kommittén har ännu inte fattat några slutgiltiga beslut kring om vissa ryska/belarusiska idrottare ska kunna få delta under neutral flagg vid spelen i Paris.
